Candles bring warmth, beauty, and ambiance to any space—but they are a source of open flame. Following these guidelines helps ensure a safe, enjoyable experience every time you light your candle.

- Burn candles within sight
- Keep away from flammable objects
- Keep away from children and pets
- Always remove candles from packaging before burning
- Trim the wick to ¼ inch before each use
- Keep the wax pool free of debris (wick trimmings, matches, etc.)
- Always burn candles in/on a proper holder:
- flat
- heat-resistant
- large enough to catch drips
- Avoid drafts and excessive vibrations
- Do not burn for more than 4 hours at a time (unless otherwise noted)
- Discontinue use when ½ inch of wax remains
- If the flame becomes too high or flickers repeatedly:
- extinguish the candle
- allow it to cool
- trim the wick
- check for drafts before relighting
- Extinguish using a candle snuffer, wick dipper, or gentle blow
- Never use water to extinguish a candle

Tunneling occurs when wax melts only down the center, leaving the edges unmelted. To prevent tunneling:
