3. What are your candles made of?
Our candles are made using 100% pure USA triple-filtered chemical-free beeswax, specifically sourced from the Midwest to reduce environmental impact. We use 100% cotton wicks pre-primed with beeswax for a clean and efficient burn. At 1207 Wax Works, we prioritize ethical practices and the health and safety of our product, from hive to home.
4. Why is my candle turning white?
Fear not! Your candle is "blooming"!
Blooming is a natural, harmless powdery coating caused by beeswax releasing its oils due to temperature and humidity changes. It’s a sign of pure, unprocessed beeswax and adds unique charm. To remove bloom, gently warm the candle with your hands or a blow dryer on low heat, to avoid melting.
5. How do I make my candles last longer?
- Trim the wick to ¼ inch before each use
- Avoid drafts
- Let the wax melt evenly to the edges to prevent tunneling
6. What is the best way to extinguish a candle?
Use a candle snuffer or wick dipper to minimize smoke and wax splatter. You can also blow it out gently, but take care not to splash hot wax.
7. Why is my candle tunneling?
Tunneling happens when the wax melts only down the center, leaving edges unmelted. To avoid tunneling, especially in pillar candles:
- Allow the first burn to create a full melted wax pool to the edges (without spilling)
- After each use, gently “hug” the candle by squeezing sides toward the center to ensure wax is melting evenly
8. Can I burn candles around pets?
Do you love pets?! We love pets!
Candles can be safe around pets if precautions are taken. Never leave candles unattended around pets and keep them out of reach to ensure safety.
9. How can I get rid of candle wax stains?
- For fabrics: scrape off excess wax, place a paper towel or cloth over the stain, then iron on low heat to absorb wax
- For hard surfaces: scrape gently with a plastic scraper and clean with warm water
10. Are your candles safe?
Yes! Each candle is hand-poured and carefully tested to make sure it burns cleanly and safely. I take pride in creating products you can enjoy without worry. Additionally, we are fully insured for your peace of mind.
11. Is it safe to burn candles every day?
Burning candles daily is generally safe as long as proper safety precautions are followed.
- Never leave unattended
- Keep away from flammable items, children, and pets
- Trim wick to 1/4 inch before each use
- Keep wax pool free of debris (like wick trimmings and matches)
- Always burn candles in/on a holder specifically designed for candle use - flat, heat-resistant surface, large enough to contain drips
- Avoid drafts and excessive vibrations
- Do not burn candle for more than 4 hours at a time (unless shorter burn time is recommended)
- Discontinue use when only 1/2 inch of wax remains
- Extinguish a candle if the flame becomes too high or flickers repeatedly. Let the candle cool, trim the wick, and check for unwanted drafts before re-lighting
- Extinguish properly with snuffer, wick dipper, or gentle blow
- Never use water to extinguish a candle
12. What is the best holder for my candle?
- The Fernwood - heat-resistant candle plate with spike
- El Catrín - heat-resistant candle plate
- La Catrina - heat-resistant candle plate
- The Skull Tower - heat-resistant candle plate with spike
- The Bookworm - heat-resistant candle plate
- The Hive - heat-resistant candle plate/holder
- The Votive - votive candle holder
- The Peony - heat-resistant candle plate
- El Cempasúchitl - heat-resistant candle plate
- The Succulent - heat-resistant candle plate
- The Taper - standard taper holder
13. Why does my candle have black soot around the wick?
Soot can form if the wick is too long or if the candle burns in a drafty area. Prevent soot by trimming the wick before each use and burning your candle away from drafts.
14. Are your candles safe for people with allergies?
Scented candles can cause allergic reactions or irritation in some people, especially those with respiratory issues like asthma. None of our candles have added scent.
If you experience any reaction or irritation when burning one of our candles, discontinue use and reach out to [email protected] for assistance.
15. How do I choose the right candle for my space?
- Larger candles provide more light and are perfect for bigger rooms
- Smaller candles work well in bathrooms or bedrooms
- "To drip, or not to drip?" Our collection offers candles that drip and those that don't! If you are looking for dripless, consider The Fernwood, El Cempasúchitl, The Peony, or The Votive (in a votive holder).
- If you are looking for the best bang for your buck, look no further than The Fernwood and The Votive. Ounce for ounce, these are the most efficient candles in our collection - utilizing every drop of wax to give you the longest burn time possible!
- For homes with children or pets, consider low-profile candles, like The Peony or El Cempasúchitl, which are less likely to tip over when curious hands (or paws) go exploring!
